Get Real Carmelo

Carmelo Anthony, All-Star forward for the Nuggets claims that he never asked them to trade him. Well, that’s probably a true statement, but it’s a half truth. His job is to play basketball and not to do the negotiating; that’s what agents are for. Here’s the problem: by walking into the practice facility and pretending that he hasn’t had any part in attempting to get traded, he’s making the situation that much worse for himself, his teammates, and the city. The new season is now underway; the Nuggets organization and the entire world knows that he wants to leave. While it would be inappropriate for him to publicly announce his desire to play somewhere else, as that would hurt the Nuggets chances of getting equal value for him, I do believe that ‘honesty is the best policy’ and therefore, if he chooses to discuss the subject, he should be completely candid and straightforward without saying anything overtly damaging to the team. That half truth he told yesterday is an insult to his fan base and damages his reputation, because people naturally lose respect for others who are not willing to engage in an honest conversation. I don’t believe Carmelo hates the city of Denver or the team; he has never hinted or intimated that. However, it’s clear that he wants to play for another team.  My advice is to stay honest and stay true to yourself, otherwise it’s going to be a long season for you and the Nuggets.
