I never liked the Jazz. Growing up in Los Angeles, Malone and Stockton always found a way to beat the up and coming Lakers. The Lakers got close a couple of times, but they could never get over the hump. But I didn’t know of anyone that disliked Coach Sloan. He was always very focused, always had a good game plan, and was a great leader.
After 23 years of coaching, and 26 years in the Utah Jazz organization, Jerry Sloan has called it a career.
What a great model of consistency for all of us to aspire to. He coached one team, worked for one organization, and was dedicated to them night in and night out. When he said in his press conference that he would’ve been happy to be Frank Layden’s assistant coach until today, I believed him. I don’t know if another honest, humble, and special coach like him will come around again.
At the same time, i’m happy that the Lakers don’t need to face coach Sloan again!
